HIGH-POINT

The design of this apartment on Ho Man Tin Hill, Kowloon, is unusually cosmopolitan. It brings the city grid of Kowloon into the living room – but in a very calm and artful way. You can see this in the carefully arranged ceiling panels and the vertical sections of laminated glass on the long wall, which pick up the proportions of the window frames. These proportions are also present in the selection and alignments of the furniture, and colours and textures that don’t compete with the marvellous views of the cityscape.

These interiors have highly-crafted bespoke features and details. In the entrance lobby the ribs of the metal lighting cowl are lit to bring out the varying colour-tones, and the remarkable curved entrance door is coated with metal-dust resin which an artist has embellished with floral motifs. And the carnito greco marble stairs are a beautiful homage to the legendary Italian architect Carlo Scarpa. Incidental details matter just as much – for example, in the alcove the Chinese sculpture selected by Antony Chan is lit to create a mixture of shadow and soft lighting to give the piece an interesting aura.

In the bedroom, Antony selected a painting that would bring a convivial yet essentially calm touch of colour. The surfaces here, and in the dressing room area, have been given refined textures and details to ensure that the views across the city are as cleanly framed as possible.
