Antony Chan’s design of this luxurious triplex apartment, at the top of a high-rise, is about creating qualities of light and surface that have depth and richness, but never in an overdramatic way. This is evident in beautifully crafted features such as the silver-painted rosebud and leaf screen, the luscious burnt umber gleam of the geometrical marble tiles in relation to the chandelier’s lemony glow, and the Lalique-like, glass-on-glass screen alongside the gradually widening steps of the marble staircase.

In the living room, and spaces around it, the qualities of light and general ambience is established by the pale marble floor, darker horizontally-veined marble on the walls, and mirror panels which draw light into the corridor at the foot of the stairs. The crystal sculpture on the alcove plinth creates an incidental, gracefully glowing focal-point. The intimate monochrome dining room is dynamically accented with a screen of crystal tubes and Baccarat lighting, and the kitchen opens onto a massive roof terrace, also designed by Antony, featuring a combination of rectilinear and flowing plan-shapes.

Curated artworks in the triplex apartment include two big Op Art prints depicting a fractured cityscape, and the wide black surround of one is precisely echoed in the black ‘set-square’ framing of the door next to it.

In the bedroom, the silvered rose and leaf motif reappears on a wall and corner column, and the luminosity increases in the bathroom, not least because of the curved glass legs of the vanity unit designed by Antony. In the family den, his design is all about clean lines and softly textured seating to produce an aura of warmly-lit comfort.
