DREAMING ABOUT
HOMES AND NATURE
Visionary Suite, Hong Kong
In Hong Kong, it’s rare for houses or apartments to have much outdoor space. Not so the homes in the Visionary development. And this was Antony Chan’s design cue. He created a sequence of remarkable ‘dreaming of home’ spaces: a softly glowing corridor with pleated, origami-like walls which segue into a curvaceous, flower-patterned space, followed by a cinema-in-the-park lounge whose features include abstracted droplets and a metal screen symbolising delicately-branched saplings.
The most extraordinary space in this international award-winning design is the courtyard. Making use of the light-well above it, Antony created a low ‘cloud’ composed of hollow geometric forms made of matt aluminium foil, and these create subtle, almost Impressionistic effects of light and shadow. This nature-inspired tableau is completed with verdant mounds, crescents of blue-grey pebbles, and small trees, and the language of curves continues in the walls and ceiling of the project model space.
